DISTRICT SPORTS CLUBS
MEETING AT SHANNON On Thursday evening fourteen representatives from Oroua Downs. Rongotea, Glen Oroua. Rangiotu, Foxton and Shannon Sports Clubs gathered in Shannon to discuss matters pertaining to the administration of horse sports meeangs in the district. Mr. S. Barber. of the Shannon Club, was.elected to' the chair. Tentative dates for the various ! clubs to hold their 1947 sports
1 meetings were arranged as ioi- j lows: Rongotea February 8, Rangi-i : otu February 15, Foxton February 122, Oroua Downes March 1, Shan- ' non March 8, and C .cn Oroua • March 15. , The matter of forming a district ;federation of sports clubs was disi 'jussed, and it was decided that the Oroua Downs Club call a meeting : ! jf all sports clubs in the district ! i for, this purpose as soon as the 1948 j i acing and show' dates' were avaii- I able. ' | The representatives were unani-j ■ mous that the clubs should give all !
possible assistance to the various « pony clubs, which were being I tormed throughout the district. } The matter of providing adequate j pony events at future sports would j oe strongly recommended to the carious sports clubs. j It was decided that the weights ; ior maiden and steeplechase events i will be 10 stone 6 lbs, and for open ; events 11 stone. 1 Many other matters pertaining to'snorts clubs were -fully discussed and'at tne conclusion of the meeting Mr. Barber thanked the visitors for their attendance. Mr. J. Q. Cameron. who renlied Sn behalf of the visitors, said'iJfc ] considered it would be a great j advantage to the various clubs if a ; ■miform set of rules could be drawn > up for the use of all sports clubs in | Ihe district. The visitors were entertained at -upper by members of the Shannon J Club.
