SYMPATHY CLASHES WITH OFFICIALDOM
Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, August 11. Darwin ofl'icialdom and publie sympathy are clashing on the future of the twelve year old Bas Wie now slowlv recovering from the effects of exposure and burns. Wie stowed away in the engine nacelle of a Dakota and flew from Koepang to Darwin. The Immigration Department says that the boy, who is an orphan, must return to Timor as soon as he is well enough. Public opinion is that he deserved more than to return to a place he did not lilte. There have been many offers to adopt him or find him a job.
