PAYING OWN PENSIONS

—Pi'ess Association

By TelegrapH-

. HASTINGS, August 8. The fallacy of the assertion that he personally, and the National Party, if returned to power, -would cut out the henefits of Social Security, was mentioned by Sir Apirana Ngata, National Party candidate for the Eastern Maori electorate, in an address in Hastings last evening. He urged Maori and pakeha to study Social Security and to see for themselves that what they were drawing out of it was what they put . into it. He recalled that during the 1938 election campaign and again in 1943, the possibility of the National Party lttaking cuts in Social Security had been exploited by Government representaitves but he was confident this time this particular "ghost" .would not frighten the people. "I have been going about my own people discussing Social Security with them," he said, "and do you know they have found out that they are the people who have been paying their own pensions."- (Laughter.)
