At Riccarton this morning Leigh Barton returned the fastest time for Iive furlongs on the outside of the courso proper, rogistering 1.2 2-5, the lirst furlong in 12 3-5sec. Tliere were many otlier attractive spriuts over Iive furlongs, among the best- beihg Desert Fox and Revivre, Foxchase, Lord Elgin and The Grand. Grand Melee, « Julius Caesar and Gritlin worked smartly over six furlongs, wliilo the best time of the moi'm ing for seven furlongs was credited to Piccolo. Lance Wing and Royal Chance also ran nicely over a mile. Tlie traek was in splendid order. Lexia broke away at the mile post, running her last half in 53 3-5sec. Longsword was too good for Lowry Bay and Higli Ideal at the end of seveu furlongs in 1.31 l:5see, the opeuing three taking 38 4-5sec. Salary was going better thau Lady Welbeck after running seven furlongs in 1.33 4-5, the lirst three taking 41 ' 3-5sec. Notary and Wane worked freely over tlie same ground in 1.31 4-5, tlieir lirst three taking 40 3-5see.' Grand Melee was a length in front of Hart Royal at the end of six furlongs in 1.1S 2-5, the lirst two taking 26 4-5 see. Bridge Acre sprinted Iive furlongs in 1.3 2-5, the lirst in 12 4-5sec. SSlie did her work well. Rahine, after taking 13see for the lirst furlongs, coinpleted Iive in 1.4. Findon in Form Royal Robe gave Detain a break oi' two lengths at the start and tlien sliaded him at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 2-5, the opeuing two in 26 4-5 sec. Golden Souvenir drew out to beat Bitter Sweet and Good Bay by a length over the iinal stages of seven furlongs run in 1.34, the last four in 52see.
