ROADSIDE LAWNS SPOILT BY HORSES
"DISAPPOINTED RESIDENTS The disappointment felt by many residents at roadside la\vns being spoilt, and in sonie cases ruined, through horses being ridden over them was expressed at the annual meeting of the Levin and District Beautifying Society last evening. Mr. W. Davie said many residents ; ( went to the trouble of improving the appearance of their streets by mowing the grass at the roadsides .. and maintaining it as a lawn. It was very disappointing to find that race horses were being ridden over them, eausing considerable damage. Mr. H. B. Burdekin stated that it was not only race horses, but other horses as well. Riding on the sealed highway was dangerous, but the horses could use the edge of the road instead of riding along the centre of the lawns. He thought an appeal to owners would have some effect. Miss H. E. Bowen remarked that trucks turning at the roadside also caused considerable damage. After further discussion it was felt that horse owners were not wittingly eausing the trouble, and that as a result of the publicity given the subject they would exercise greater care in the iuture.
