APPKLAND, August (i. Increased jiolice protection of the Auckland v.aterfront and tlie reintroduction of the polico night water jiati"o 1 , are to be suggested to tlie Bolice Dejiart ment, foliowing the adoji ion by tlie Auckland Harbour Board of a suucommittee 's rejiort. Tlie sub commit tee which had considered closer sttjiervision of the wharves at night, stated that jiolice protection was iinidequate and should be consider- i ably strengthened and tliat a night j water patrol was needed as protection I againsl jiillage and the unlawful re moval of goods from tlie wharves and shijis during tlie hours of darkness. The board adopled further recommendations tliat the wharves should be closed to tlie jiublic from (i p.m. to 8 a.m. on week days, entirely on holidays, and froni noon on Saturdays to 8 a.m. | on Mondays. Entry to the wharves ! during restricted periods will lie only by 1 passes issued by the board or shijipiiig | companies. |
