"THE CALFDOZER"
The Sydnev Water Board has decided to iiuport a "ealfdozer" froin England. The president, Mr. Upton, described a ealfdozer as a ljaby bulldozer, He said.it was yet another stage in the meehanisation of piek and shovel work, states the Sydney Morning Herald. Trench digging machines, now used in laying water mains, throw the spoil beside the trench. Putting it baclc was still a job for a labourer with a shovel. Now it seems the labourer will no longer be required, The ealfdozer neatly scoops up the spoil and tosses it into the trench. Two s'uch machines, engineers deelaro would make extensions of water mains quicker and much cheaper. rlhe board 's engineers say nothing is known in Australia of the machine's performance under working conditions, so they have advised the board to buy ojily one mac.hine at first. It will eost £900; which includes freight and £50 wortli of spare parts.
