WOMEN'S DIVISION

' — y PrlRAPARAtfMU BRANCH MEETS '• The Paraparaumu branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers held their ninth birthday party in the Anglican Hall. There was a large attendance of members. and visitors from other districts, and other orgahisations. • The hall was beautifuiiy decorated for the occasion with coloured foliags and gay spring flowers. The president. Mrs. .Harris, welcomed . all present and. pxpressed the hope that. they would spend a happy afternoon. Many birthday greetings telegram. were read, congratulating the organisation on attaining its ninth birthday.

A delightful programme of music and song was provided for entertainment. Mrs. Lee, accompamea by Miss Ruth Hoggard, sang "Rosf of Morn" and "My Prayer" as an encore. Miss Ruth Hoggard accompanied by Mrs. Lee, gave two violin solos, "Shepherd's Dance, by Edward German, and "Allure," by Sebastian Bach. Mrs. Delicate, m her ,usual inimitabie manner, contributed . humorous items, which were much "enjoyed. Mrs. Bitossi sang, accompanied by Mrs. E. Graham, "I was D'reaming" and "Silver Threads among the Gold," all present joining in the chorus. Miss Lang gave two pianoforte items, Mrs. Anderson, accompanied « Mrs. Graham, sang "Mother Machree," "Genevieve" and "I'll Take you Home Again Kathleen,' all joining in the chorus and heartily ehjoying the old-time songs.

Afternoon tea was served. The winner of the lucky tea cup was Mrs. Anderson and the lucky seat Mrs. Webb. As it was Mrs. Fitchett's birthday, she was presehted with a bouquet and birthday greetings. The cake, which wa: made by Mrs. Smith and iced by Mrs. Webber, of Kapiti, was a ver.y attractive one. The top was iced to represent , a. paddock, complete with grass and cattle and sheep grazing while their mistress reclined under a sheltering tree with her sewing. The cake-cutting ceremony was performed after Mrs. McLeavey, Dominion trpasurer, had lit the candles and Mrs. Udy had extinguished them. Mrs. •Denny, Mrs. BEnnett> (Manakau.;, 'Mrs. Wel'b (Waikanae Beach ) Mrs. Kilsby (Ohau), Mrs. Walker (Otaki-Te Horo Branch) and Mrs. Hornsbyr .repyesenting the Paraparaumu j Women's Institute, : each in turn cu.t.,ihe cake, xvishing the division evefyj 'prosperity foi' the future. Mrs. McLeavey then spoke about the recent cohference and the proposed headquarters building the.y hoped to acquire. The winners of the competitions were: " Cake, Mrs. Storey; fowl. Mrs. L.
