WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. Commenting on the statement by the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. Alluni)' that intending immigrants to New Zealand should be warned of the serious housing sliortage, the Minister of National Hervice (Mr. McLagan) said today that it was a deiinite policy of the Government to ensure that all prospective immigrants were especially Avarned- of the present housing situation in New Zealand. In all offieial publications and announcements care had always been i taken to stress the difficulti'es- that 1 would eonfront intending immigrants, I particularly married people-, in, seeuring ■ housing in tlie Dominion at the present time. Tlre need for ensuring that the present housing shortage was^ n-Ot aggravated by an unrestricted influ-x' of married immigrants was obvious', and. positive aetion had aecoi'dingly been taken to ensure that until the position eases assisted immigration is- restri'cted to single pevsons in selecteff categories', for whom a c c o mmo dation iS available.
