SECOND HAND MOTOR CARS IN ENGLAND
NEW MODELS AT A PEEMIUM According to the Imndon Dailv ilail of May AS, tlie prices of new model second liand cars, that is, 1916 niodeis, are soaring. An 8 h.p. car with a mileage of lcss tliau SOO sold at £49-) and a 10 h.p. Ford Prefect sold at £675 whilo a 1916 Staudard 12 with a mileage of 547 sold at over £900. The liames of many other well knowu makes of cars are mentioned in an article dealing with Ihe re-salo of 1946 uiodel cars and coniparative figures are gi\en to sliow the ordinarv relail jirice. One model the retail price of which is £479 including tax, realised £985 after iiaving ruu 200 or 500 miles. It appears that cars are not readily available in England and the demand is very cousiderably in excess of tlie supply wliile there is a priority list to be satislied before the ordinary molorist can obtain a vehicle unless lie 's forlunate enough to chance upon this new second liand ma,rket. According to thc Minister of Transport there are now 500,000 fewer cars 011 the roiul in England than in 1989. This perhaps explains what uiight be described as "frantic" Imying.
