Holiywood has its accommodation diffieuities. Martha Vickers, Warner Bros.' pretty starlet, is experiencing great difficulty in finding a piace there to accommodate her father, mother and 15-year-old brother. Incidentally, it is reported from Holiywood that Lew Ayres is very keen to meet Miss Vickers, indicating that his i feet are firmly on the ground once | more. Ayres, it is- said, thinks her| the girl of his dreams. Adeie Astaire' Cavendish, dancingj sister of Fred Astaire, has decidedj to iive in Holiywood six months out of every year, causing some speculation in the cinema city as to what' her professional plans are. Astaire 1 fans haven't forgottqn the brother and sister tea'm and it would be a feather in any studio's cap to sign the two of them up. Portraying a drunk on the screen is much harder than it looks, says Edgar Buchanan. ."He is a creature of infinite moods, his reactions varying according to tne degree he has submerged his personali'ty in the alcoholic sea," said Buchanan. The fact that movie scenes are not shot in chronological order does not help. "You've got to keep a mental account of your alconolic behaviour pattern. You've got to know whether you are at the eyeblinking stage or well into the pick-a-fight mood." Edgar gives an example of this in "Perilous Holiday" in which he had to'build a semi-coma gradually — in movie language, about a week.
