NATIONALITY OF MARRIED WOMEN
WELLINGTON, August 1. Agreement has been reached between the Governments of the United Kingdam, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Afriea as to prineiples 011 which legislation govorning the nationality of married women should be based said the Prime Minister tonight. The prineiples accepted were that the law should. be, in effect, that a British woman on mRrriage to a foreigner, wliether she ^did 0,1; djid not aeciuire his' nationality undbr'-'fhe laiv oP hjs/cdfm- j try, Should not lose her British • nationality unless she took active steps to re- j noiince i't, and tliat a foreign woman ; who married a British subject should j have the right to apply for it subject; to the exercise by the Minister con-| cenied, of discretion as to the granting; or refusing of the applieation. j IMr. Fraser said it was contemplated j tliat a conference of oflicials concerned 1 with the administration of nationality j laws, would be convened later in the 1 year, to examine various questious ! affecting the nationality law in the ' countries of the British Commonwealth. | Gonside.rat.ion would be given to de- ' tailed provisions required for eifec.t.ing the cliange nowT agreed upon in the law relating to the nationalitjr of married women.
