DEHORNING OF CALVES
The dehorning of calves intended for the lierd is ndvisable in the tirst few days of their life. The liair should be elipped awav from the button of the growing liorn and the skin around the base smeared with vaseline to proteet ' tliose parts from injury by the eaustiCj (states Massey Agricultural College): The button is rubbed . gently, with a caustie soda stie.k, bnt care should be taken to avoid bleediig. Reveral applications within a few minutes of each otlier will be suffieient. It is important to keep the calves ouf of rain during the period of treatmeiit to prevent tlie caustic being washed on to the face.
