V V VjiJLi JU L1N \J X j ±. One million gallons of petrol were virtually saved 011 figures allocated for June, as the result of the abolition of Ihe ratioiiing* scheme as it affected motorists at the end of May, said an oiiicial of an oil company today. This, he said, did not come as a surprise, as in the last ten days of May, people anxious about future supplies and the elfect of non-rationing, used all thpir coupons for both May and June which were available to jiurchase petrol. As the result there was not nearly the detnand in June that there might otherAvise have been expected and the figures were well down. Though final figures for July were not yet a.vailable, it Avas fairly certain the totals for New Zea j land would not be much, if at all, above those which had been fixed as the allowance for the month. This mpant that petrol saved in Jupe should still be car ried* over.
