WARNING REGARDING LAND SALES
By Telegraph-
AL( KLA.Ml, July 3 1. The serious view taken by the Court to tlie flouting of the Servicemen 's Settlement and Land Saies Aet, 1943, was stated bv Mr. J. TI. Luxford, S.M., in the Bolico Court today when he gavo a stern warning to intending vendors and purcLscrs ancl to real estate agents concerning tlie passing of "something- under the table" to a vendor. Mr. Luxford delivered a long judgment relating to the prosecution on July 22 against Frederick George Thomas Whitfield, alleging breaches of •the Aet in a property deal in which Whitfield was the purehaser. It was alleged that Whitfield wrote a clieque for £1100 in pureliasing furniture contained in a honse which he was also buying. The Alagistrate said that in point of fact the furniture was not worth more than £100. "Although it is notorious that in many transactions money passes illegally between the vendor and the purehaser this is the first occasion in Auckland on wliich a prosecution has been brought," said the Magistrate. It would be well that the serious view the Court took of such a matter should be understood. He would impose the maximum monetary penalty of £100.
