DISASTROUS DROUGHT
BIG LOSS IN QBEENSLAND Received Wedncsday, 7 p.m. BRISBANE, July 31. Queensland is experiencing the most widespread and disastrous drought for more than 40 years and the State's rainfall during the last three months has heen 68 points, the lov/est in history. Many farmers and pastoralists face rain hecause of the prolonged dry speli. About 2,000,000 sheep have heen lost and the sugar crop wiU he 165,000 tonp. below estimates, representing a money' loss of £3,000,000. The wheat crop is expected to he a failure hecause of lack of planting rains. The dairying and agricultural output has dropped tremendously. It is estimated that the total drought losses are ahout £10,000,000. Bush fires are burning in all, parts of ihe State.
