FAST RUGBY IN ANNUAL GAME The Horowhenua College first fifteen had a three-point win over the Scots College first fifteen when they played their annual game on the college grounds yesterday afternoon. Although it was a perfect day and the ground was. dry, both packs of forwards did most of the work, the backs haraly ever touching the ball. The severai brilliant passing movements by the backs were spoilt by the bad passing and handling.- The game, which was won by Horowhenua by six points to three, was fast throughout and although pifawent from one end of the field to other continually, Horowhenua held a slight advantage for the greater part. The teams were as lollows: — Scots: Nimmo, Ramnath, Edwards, Mawson, Valentine, Lee (captain), Tennent, Maule, Munro, Duncan, Joehanesson, Hippins, Shapley, McTaggart and Laughton. Edwards was later replaced by Brooker. Horowhenua: Bartosh, McClune, Lycette, Stannard, Leddra, Hermansson, Walker (captain), Casey, Royal, Gwynn, Hannan, Ropata, Giles, Lind and Parsons. Hard play continued, -with; Horowhenua holding 'the ' territorial advantage. A scrum was set down by the Scots twenty-five line and Royal dodged around the blind side and passed out to Giles, who dived over.' Walker's kick failed, making the score Horowhenua 3, Scots 0. Horowhenua forwards were working hard and a littie later Bartosh dribbled through, kickea out to Lind, who snapped it up and dashed over. Ropata's attempt fell short. Horowhenua 6, Scots 0. The score was still six nil at half-time and after the spell Scots came back to try and even thc points. Severai handy penalty ldcks'were taken by Lee, but ne wa* unlucky with all of them. The Scots pack at last put the- ball at their toes and took it to the Horowhenua line, enabling Tennent, the half-back,' to §core. Lee's kick again failed. Horowhenua 6, Scots 3Horowhenua were unlucky not to score on severai occasions, their over-Sagerness and good tackling by the Scots' b'ack line' keeping them out. Horowhenua were still forcing the pace as the' final whistle blew, leaving the score Horowhenua 6, Scots 3. Mr. J. A. Zuppicich was the referee. ^ ____
