PRODUCE HELD UP IN THE SOUTH
INVERCARGILL, July 30. Beeause of lack of shipping, more than 50,000 saeks of farmers' produce for North Island centres, have accumulated in Invercargill grain stores and on farms in the country districts. Of this total about 17,000 saeks and, in addition, about 150 tons of general eargo, are destined for Wanganui. A representative meeting in Invercargill deeided to send an urgent telegram to the Prime Minister asking for the rcinstatement of the Bluff-Wanga-jiui shipping service in an effort to ell'ect a clearanee. At one stage more than 70,000 saeks, ineluding wheat, oats, seeds and potatoes, were awaitiug shipment but it is expeeted that the Waimarino, Waihemo and Waiana, two of which are loading at Bluff, now will effeet the clearanee of about 19,000 saeks for North Island centres othbr than Wanganui.. The last loading at Bluff for Wanganui before the termination of the service, was on June 6th and the clearanee of saeks and general eargo will depend on the outeome of the present r?presentations. It is eonsidered eargo at present held for Wanganui is equivalent to two fnll ship loads.
