OBITUARY

mr. michael COVENTRY Ouite a gloom was cast over Otaki yesterday when it beeame known that Mr. Michael William Coventry had suddenly passed away. The deceased, who was wellknown and higiuy respected, had oeen helping Mr. Norman Anderson with alterations to his residence at Tasman Beach, when it was decided that more timber was needed to oomplete ihe work. The car was ready to make the trip and, Mr. Anderson had gone to secure a trailer. He had scarcely been gone a few moments when he returned, only to find Mr. Coventry lying on che grass at the roadside by the ear. All possible was done 10 revive the deceased but without .ivail, and when a doctor arrived ne could only pronounce life extinct. The death of deceased, which occurred shortly after 9.30 a.m., came as a blow to his relatives and many friends, Mr. Coventry being very popular. He possessed a quiet, unassuming nature. He was a keen oportsman, last season being vicepresident of the Otaki Bowling Club and a prominent playing member, and this year had been' .isked to accept the presidency, on honour that he declined. Mr. Coventry married Miss V7hitehorn;'one of a family of wellknown residents, for whom mnc.-i sympathy is expressed, and also for his daughter, Mrs. Percy Simcox, of Otaki. a son paid the ouprenie sacriflCe durlng the war. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, after a servic'e at All Saints' Church at 2 p.m. An inquest was held to-day.
