HAS A FEELING BRITAIN WILL LEAD

WELLINGTON, July 29. The "belief that the British Commonwealth and not United iStates wouid iead - the fight for freedom ahd peace, was expressed hy the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, today, in opening the conference of ex-servicemen's organisations. "The British commonwealth will be the most powerful agent and sometimes the only agent for the type of freedom we weht to war for," said Mr. Nash. "I say that not meaning to slight United States." From his recent trip to Britain and United States, he was left with a tremendous impression' of Britain 's moral strength, a heartening sign in the centre of the Commonwealth. It waB not the same in the United States where real unity was not apparent. "I met many great international thinkers, fine idealistic men in America'. but nevertheless I don't think we will get leadership from there," he said. "They do not seem to he able to get the same coordination you find in United Kingdom." The feeling he had ahout the part Britain would play in the future of the world, might he called intuitioii, said Mr. Nash, yet it was a feeling he had great confidence in.
