Mystery Lights at Kapiti An explanation of mysterious lights near Kapiti Island, late in Ivlay is put forward by Mr. J. B. Hopkins, master of the fishing launch Cloud. The Clgud had at that time been south on a fisliing crip, and was returning to its base near Kapiti. The weather was bad. and the sea very rough. The taunch's dinghy dragged so heavily in the swell that it was hauled in and placed bottom upwards over the cockpit of the launch. The launch rolled a good deal in the heavy seas, and it is thought that the engine-room lights, shining on the upturned dinghy, created the flashing lights seen at the time. Ne accurate record was kept of the launch's movements, so it was unable to be accounted for by the Marine Department. The mastev rtates that the launch was iefinitely in the vicinity at the ime the lights were seen.
