Free Membership The Featherston bowling cluh : has decided to grant free meihoersliip for twelve months to service raen who have served overseas. School Sport Playing at rugby on Friday the Otaki State School boys defeated Convent, while the Convent school girls defeated the State School basketball players. Reception to Bishop Preparations are being made by the Maoris of the district to tender a fitting reception to Bishop Holland who is expected in Otaki on August 11. The welcome and farewell will be carried out in true Maori manner, and will be attended by Natives from various towns. Raukawa Hall Repairs Raukawa Hall, which has been in almost constant use for many months, especially during the war period, is in need of renovation, and a strong committee, with Mrs. Te Hana as secretary, has been appointed to raise funds for repairs, painting, etc. For the purpose of raising funds dances will be held, the first on Friday next, when a large gathering is expected.' Stakes Increased The Tara tahi -Carterton ' Racing Club has decided to increase the stakes to £2000. The cup has been increased by £50 and two other races by £25 each. Eight races will be on the programme. It was decided that the first race start at 11 o'clock, with 20 minute intervals between each event. The meeting decided to increase the insurance on the buildings by £2000. Five new members were elected, making a total membership of 247. The following officers were appointed: Starter, Mr. W. C. Price; handicapper, Mr. A. V. O'Brien; judge, Mr. S. V. McEwen; broadcaster, Mr. K. McDonald; totalisator supervisor, Mr. W. G. Talbot.
