PONY CLUB FORMED
INAUGURAL MEETING IN LEVIN The inaugural meeting of the Levin branch of the '.Manawatu Pony Club was held this week* When Mr. G. H-. Vickers. presided over ah attendance of more than 20 persons. Apologies for absen p were received from Messrs.. Cl Ld/' sen, R. Butt* J. A. Kilsby-, A. M. Scott, R. Long and Mrs. Long. The chairman introdueed Mr. D. Scott, Mrs. D. McGregor and Miss S. Dobson, from Palmerston North-, who had come to Levin to 'assist in laUnching the branch. Mr. Scott then addressed the meeting, explaining and outlining the general aims and objects of the club. The objects were to encourage young people to ride and enjoy all kihds of sport cohnected With horses and ridin'g, to instil ih theiil the proper care of their animals, and "to offer them the opportunity of receiving instruction of a higher class ahd on more orthodox lines than many of them could obtain individually. After the address, on the motion of Mr. Beale, seconded by Mr. Young, it was decided that a branch of the Manawatu Pony Club be formed in Levin, and that a committee be set up to manage its affairs. The officers for the year were elected as follows: — Patron: Dr. S. J. Thompson; president: Mr. G. H. Vickers-; vice-president: Mr. H. Marsh; committee: Mrs. G. H. Vickers, Miss P. H. Fullartoh, Messrs. W. Beale, J. P. Bertram, J. Procter, R. Young, L. Whylie, R. Mexted, W. Batten, W. Procter, L. Clarke and K. Knight; delegates: Messrs. G. H. Vickers and H. Marsh; secretary: Mr. J. E. Fullarton. Miss Dobson read the rules of the Heretaunga Pony Club and these, with the proposed alterations and modifications, were then discussed and further suggestions invited. Mr. Bertram suggested an amendment to the proposed rules to suit this district and put forward a proposal that the delegates be instructed to move at the meeting in Palmerston North the motion that branches be separate bodies affiliated to the central body in Palmerston North. Considerable discussion then ensued, the geheral opinion of the meeting being in favour of that suggestion.
