RAIN AT TAUPO RAISES LAKE LEVEL
WELLINGTON, July 25. j Rain in the Taupo area yesterday isj reflected in a rise in the lake level] which, at 1172 feet, is the highest it has been since the first xveek 111 June. The present level is the minimum control level and Ihe rise does" n'of meah an improvement in the generatiiig position or sujjplv of power. Explaining the minimum control level, tlie State Hydro-electric Department loday said it xvas the level abovo which thc water must rise before storage could be achicved. Until the water rises above that level, the generation of power depends on the flow of the river which fluctuates accordiug to freshes cansed by rain below the lake. Widesprcad rain during ihe past 48 hours was respousible fer the rise in thc lake level which is coutinuing. Fiftyone points were registered for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today and there are prospects of further rain.
