WELLINGTON, July 26. The sunspot first reported on Monday is 130,000 miles long, said the director of the Carter Observatory, -Mr. I. L. Thomsen. The spot was very large and eomplicated, and a great number of nucelei were easily visible to the naked eye. He emphasised that observers must use smoked glass or other protective covering. Mr. Thomsen said it was expected that the sunspot would cause greater magnetic disturbances than that.- In February,r/;bec^us$ ?itl was closer to. the ^centre ;-df ' thq S"u%'s disc.
