WELLINGTON, July 24. Tn Ihe House today llr. A. >S. Richards (Roskill) gave notice to ask ihe Prime Minister the following question: ''lias the attention of the Prime Minister been drawn to the ]>roposal that the British Government should liold an iiupiirv into the ownership and control of the Press of tlie United Kingdom and will the New Zealand Government give thought to tlie holding of a similar imiuiry.' In a note to his question, Mr. Richards stated: "The daily news sources of the Dominion are in the hands of a monojmlv organisution, the Press Association, whose rulcs forbid its raembers from obtaining cabled news from j anv other source. Further, there is an unhealthv trend developing in the Dominion. due to Ihe growlh of chain ownership of uewspapers. New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd., for instance, in addition to the ownership of the Ghristchurch tStar-Sun and Auckland 8tar, are reputed to have acquired interests in Napier, New Plvmoutli and Whangarei."
