GIFT EVENING
POPUI-'AIt COUPLE ENTERTAINED Reccntly in the Druids' Hall, j Otaki, a gift evening in honour of ! Miss Joan Lumley and IVIr. John Guthrie was held. This function, , organised by the ladies of the Presbyterian Church and close friends of the parties, was largely j attended and large numbers of j ■gifts of various kinds were receiv- ! ed. Under the direction of Rev. A.j Ashwin a most enjoyable time was spent by all. t During the evoning Miss Mar- 1 ■garet Ashwin presented Miss Lum- , ley with a shoulder spray on | behalf , and with the best wishes i of the Bible Class members. Then Mr. Fred Thorpe, in a happy ■ speech, in which he made refer- ; ence to his long associations with: Miss Lumley, on behalf of those ; assembled, asked the young couple, to accept the gifts which were indicative of the desire of all pres- : ent that their future should be a happy one. Mr. John Guthrie suitably repiied, and a most enjoyable even- , ing was brought to a close.
