Violence Will Not Divert Search For Just Solulion

Received Wednesday, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, July 23. "The House will have learned with horror of the brutal aru murderous crime committed yesterday in Jerusalem. Of al ' the outrages in Palestine — and. they have been many and hoirible in the past few months-»-this is the worst," said the British Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Attlee, in the House of Commons. "By this insane act of -terrorism 93 innocent persons were killed or are missing in the ruins. The latest figures of the casualties are 41 killed, 52 missing and 53 injured.
"I have no further information at present beyond what was contained in the official report from Jerusalem, issued last night," continued Mr. Attlee. "The House will wish to express its profound sympathy with relatives of the killed and injured in this dastardly outrage." (Cheers). "As the House knows, the Government is at this moment in consultation with the United States with a view to arriving at proposals for a just settlement of the Palestine problem. The Government has stated, and it restates, that it will not be diverted by acts of violence in its search for a just and final solution to this problem." (Cheers). Mr. Anthonv Eden asked for an assurance that the Government intended to take every possible step to provide for the local authorities in any action they might need to take to prevent a recurrenee of such incidents. Mr. Attlee replied: "Certainly, but you realise I am waiting for a full report from the High Commissioner."
