PARAPARAUMU NOTES
The W.D.F.U. is now the Women's Division of the Federated Farmers. They held their. monthly meeting in the Anglican Hall, presided over by Mrs., Harris, and a very happy afternoon was spent by all. Mrs. Sherriden was the lucky winner of the dinner dona^ed by Mrs. Glenn-Campbell. Mrs, Fitchett gave an interesting demonstration on the making of daisies for crocheting together for babies' quilts, dressing jackets, etc. The conference recently held in Wellington was discussed. Each mem- 1 ber was given a tiny piece of thej large birthday cake, which was made to celebrate the 21st birthday of the movement. Mrs. Fitchett was in eharge of the wellstocked saies table. Mrs. GlennCampbell was the winner of the1 household hunt quiz. Afternoon j tea .was served and the meeting , concluded", with the singing of the | National Anthem. . ] The Paraparaumu Women's ; Institute held their July meeting ? in the Anglican Hall, presided over j by Mrs. Hornsby. There was a very.j large attendance. The meeting j opened with the singing of the) Institute Song and the Aspirations. i Owing to a last minute telegram, ; stating that. the expected guesti speaker was unable to be present, J an impromptu programme had to; be arranged. Conference mattersi were read and discussed. A new) member "(Miss Teiford) vvas wei- : comed and enrolled. Miss Hadfteld ; spoke briefly on the proposed war| memorial for the district, which is to be a large building to serve the: district as a hall and general com-r ; munity centre. Mrs. Delahunty and ! Mrs. Patterson each paid tributesj to the esteemed memory of the j late Mrs. E". K. Bain. A roll call, j the first school I attended, was; very amusing and sometimes a tax on the memory of childhood days. Miss Clarkson conducted a quiz, which was won by Mrs. Hadfield, with Mrs. White-Scott second. Mrs. Glenn-Campbell v/as the lucky winner of a box of fruit, while Mrs. Mclsaac was the" winner of the best flower competition with a carnation and Mrs. Hansby was second with a piece of eoloured manuka. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Mrs. F. H. Clarkson was the delegate from the Paraparaumu branch of the Mothers' Union to the conference in Wellington. - -Ex-eeptionally • 4ieawy5 "kana f ©11 i-aL the week-end. Owing to the difficulty of obtaining sumcient food for their poultry, the owners are finding their fowls are going into a moult and eggs are consequently very scarce.
