NEW POST OFFICE NEXT YEAR

TEMPORARY BUILDING FOR EXCHANGE Acknowledging receipt of its representations for a new telephone exchange in Levin, a letter was received at last evening's meeting of the Levin Borough Council from the Director-General of the P. and T. Department (Mr. H. M. Patrick), who explained the present posntion in regard to finding suitable accommodation for the new equipment, and gave an assurance that no avoidable delay would occur in the installation work once accommodation was available. The Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin) said that he had received a later letter from the Levin postmaster (Mr. L. A. Whitham), who said that he had been requested by the divisional director of the General Post Offlce (Mr. E. A. Munden) to advise that arrangements had now been finalised to instal a modern branch-multiple switchboard exchange. The new exchange would be housed in a temporary building, as the department was endeavouring to proceed with the erection of the new post offlce next year,- the pox) v-ision of > a • new • offloe . .at, .
