! Thc story of "Beautiful But ' Broke" concerns a theatrical agent j to whom Joan acts as secretary. 'Her prineipal flnds himseil unable i to secure a scintlllating "orchestra jfor a theatrical manager. Joan | undertakes to create one and iassembles a band of supposedly jyoung lady musicians and proceeds | to "sell" them on the basis of the Inovelty of a young feminine orchestra. She effects her sale before actually seeing the band. The fun conimencos when the lad,ies of the band tuni out to be eld- ' erly and unattractive females — performers of a generation ago. However, the band does not get far before war priorities put them off (the train in a small country town. :Here they find an empty house and take it over for the night. From this point until tlie end the comedy is said to be fast'and furious. There are some specialties in the ,fllm which include a vaudeviilc act by Willie, West and McGinty. This is an American headline act lspecialising in acrobatic tumbling. (The popular song "Pistol Packin' ;Mamma" is featurcd by Judy Clark.
