Received Monday, 10.15 a.m. LONDON, July 21. The Arab leader, Jamal Husseini, after a tour of the country, told Reuter's Jerusalem correspondent that Arab Palestine would "emphatically reject" a partition as the solutic+a to the Palestine problem. "A division into two separate ?/ "/es, mutually antagonistic, would never work in a small country like the Holy Land." Jamal Husseini said the time had come when Britain must choose between the Arabs and Jews. He compared the British Government's harsh measures against the Arab leaders during the 1936 revolt with the present day "apologetic" treatment handed out to the Jews. "Jewish terrorism quickly subsided when the British Government showed its teeth," he added. Jamal Husseini expressed the Arabs' appreciation of the middle course the High Commissioner, Lieut.-General Sir Alan Cunningham, had always taken. Reuter's correspondent says it is reliably rep^rted that the commander-in-ehief of Haganah, the Jewish resistance movement, has resigned "after sharp differences of opinion with the more moderate element among Palestinian Jewry." The former commander, who ranked equivalent to a British general, went underground when the British arrested the Jewish leaders on June 29. A new commander has now been appointed.
