COMING-OF-AGE DANCE

PLEASANT FUNCTION Graceful tree ferns and bowls of gay flowers transformed the Anglican Hall 011 Friday night last when the coming-of-age of Miss Anita Tews was celebrated by a dance given in her honour by Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Tews. The guests, numbering about 100, were received by Mrs. Tews wearing a model frock in black and white, with a shoulder spray of white cyclamen. The guest of honour looked sweet in a girlish frock of pink silk net, and she wore a pink cyclamen spray. With Mr. A. Marshall as a capable M.C. the dancing went with a swing. A oright interlude was a humorous reci'tation by Miss Rosa Mills. Extras were played by Mrs. Tews and Mr-. Brian Tews, Pohangina Valley. After a delicious home-made Minner. the toast to the guest of

the evening was proposed oy a close friend, Mr. Gordon McGhie, of Wellington, and as a symbol of Anita's majority he handed her a large key, which was afterwards autographed by those present. Miss Tews in a pleasant little speech, thanked all who had lielpcd to give her such a happy birthday. The twenty-one candles were then lit and amid cheers and good wi&hes the beautifully iced cake, which was made by Mrs. Tews, was cut. A confetti and streamer waltz, followed by "Auid Lang Syne" and the National Anthem, brought to a close a delightful evening of which happy mernories will linger long.
