A Skipping Record? In a skipping competition held at the Kakatahi School recently an 11-year-old child, Winnie Taitumu, skipped 3796 times. Conditions permitted any kind of skipping in three separate bouts, the girl compiling totals -of 1295, 501 and 2000. The school is curious to know if this constitutes a record and would welcome any information on the subject. Kitten's Long Journey A resident of Levin who left the town some time ago to reside in the Hutt Valley possessed a kitten of which he was very fond. He had not lived in the Hutt for very long when he passed away. That the kitten had an attachment for his master.is very evident, because iast week "Tim" turned up at the old residence in Levin in search of him, having made the journey all tlie way from the Hutt. The nextdoor neighbour recognised "Tim" and he now has a new home. Inler-College Sport Yesterday morning Horo whenua College played its annual football and basketball matches _ with Palmerston North • Technical High School. Both basketball matches were won by Horowhenua, the A grade by 18—5 and the B grade by 23 — 6. In the football the Hoi-o-whehua second fifteen suffered a defeat at the hands of the visiting fifteen, who won 9 — 6. The Horowhenua third fifteen played the Palmerston North second fifteen and won 12 — 3. Sugar for Marmalade In the House yesTerday, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, answering an urgent question by Mr. A. S. Sutherland (Hauraki), said"' New Zealand's present stocks of raw sugar were low owing to the shortage of shipping between the Dominion and Fiji. It was therefore impossible at present to make an extra allowance available for marmalade making but it was expected this, could be done after further shipments which were expected during August, reached New Zealand. Golden-Crowned Tui A tui with a golden crown has been seen in a Titirangi garden by a member of the Forest and Bird Protection Society. He was an exquisite bird, and was later joined by his bride, who was more soberly arrayed. They stayed in ihe garden for some m'oriths and during this time the head colouring did not vary. The male became very tame, and would sip syrup from a cup held in the hand. The unusual colouring was formed of tiny orange feathers which shaded to white against the skin. Return of J-Force Men Altered arrangements for the return to New Zealand of the first section of J-Force were announced yesterday by the Minister of De.fence (Mr. Jones) . It is now expected that the troopship Chitral, on which the draft of approximately 2000 is travelling, will touch first at Lyttelton, disembarking South Island personnei before proceeding to Wellington. The Chitral is expected oif the New Zealand coast on July 22, and depending on the weather will disembark the troops that day at Lyttelton, cnen leaving i'or Wellington to disembark the North Island troops on July 23. The Chitral left Japan. direct for New Zealand on July 6. The names of Horowhenua district personnei will be released to-mor-row. ' . Accident at Hunt When the horse he was riding at the Rangitikei Hunt Club midweek hunt yesterday, fell at a gorse fence and rolled on him, the Master, Mr. Francis McLean, of South Makirikiri, near Marton, received internal injuries which necessitated his removal to the Palmerston North Hospital. This mishap occurred when Mr. McLean and others taking part in the hunt, were following the hounds across Mr. A. Stantiall's property, Goebel's Line, near Marton. The party came to a gorse fence with wire stretched across the top and four horses fell. Only Mr. McLeah was injured. He was attended ' to by Dr. "A. A. Church, Marton, and then taken by ambulance to the Palmerston North Hospital. His condition was said to be satisfactory last night.
