Whangarei Shooting Affair SMART ARREST BY POLICE

WHANGAREI, July 17. Forty hours after Sydney John jPeachey had been shot and killed 1 by a buflet fired through the winI dow of his living room, a man was 1 arrested by the police. The arrested man was Reginald Alexander Donaldson, aged 27, a farm hand, of Otaika Valiey. He appeared in the Whangarei Court this morning before the Magistrate, Mr. W. C. Harley, charged that on July 14 he murdered Sydney John Pe9,ch6y x Detective-Sergeant J. B. Finlay asked for a remand to Auckland on August 7, Mr. D. L. Ro'ss, who appeared for Donaldson, consenting, and the application was granted." _ The intense interest of the public in the case was reflected in the large crowd which attended the j court, the public section being ) crowded, but the proceedings were ■ compieted within two minutes. Smart police work led to the ar- ! rest yesterday morning by Detec- , fcive-Bergeant Finlay and Detective E. W. Mahood. Following the murder, police inquiries were extensive, j and were carried on with little re- j spite until the arrest was made 40 j hours after the crime.
