Vincent (driver) at the Tancred Street •rossing, Ashburton, this aftevnoon. '•aptain Edmonds was thrown ont and lied almost insl antaneonsly. Sergeant Vineent suffcred head and eliest injuries. Captain Edmonds had been in eliarge of Ihe Del'enee OtTice at Ashburton since 1024. He retired in 1030, but was ealled baclc after war liroke out and 'onlinned in chargo of the office. He had a distinguishod militavv career over a period of 54 vears, serving in the South African War, lafer in Tndia ■tnd th»n in tlie Oivnt AVar. being wounded at Gallinoli. He was invalided back to Now Zealand in 1016, being sent to Waimate in charge of the Defencp Offiee. lnit was later transferred tn Ashburton. Canfain Edmonds is survi vd by liis wife and a grown-up family. ' *
