In view of the possibility that the interzone Davis Cup tennis Ihiai uiay yet be played in Australia, the secretary of the" New Zealantl Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. A. 0. W. Mantell Hariling, lias cabled the American Tennis Association regarding prospects of play .ing the Paeiiic zone iinal between the . United Btates and New Zealand^ in either this eountry or Australia. New Zealand 'a niatcli with the United States is scheduled to be played at Pliiladelphiu oji .Julv -0. However, the New Zealand Association .previously decided it would huve to ®witlidraw its entry unless the tie against the winners of Ihe North American zone could be play cd iji New Zealand or Australia. The I'hiropean iinalists aro Yngoslavia and Kweden. The latter eountry lias intimated that in the event of its winning, it would be prepared to play the interzone Jinal iu the United StatOs. This would conipel New Zealand to withdraw l'roni the Paeiiic zone iinal against the United Htates as the cost of sending a t ea m to Philadelphia had been considered out of the question for the results to be aehievod. The Yugoslavs, however, have not so fur iiulicated tliey are agreealile to playing the interzone iinal in Anierica. In the event of the venue being disputed it would be played in the eountry of the Davis Cup holders, Australia, thus paving the way for New Zealand to proeeed with its entry.
