RUTHLESS FORCES AT WORK IN AUSTRALIA

Reeeived Monday, 7.55 p.m. • \ CANBERRA, July 15. The fact that bashings and attempted large scale bribery of prices officials had occurred in several States, should shock the public into realising that some forces.were ruthless in their efforts to remove obstacles to exploitation, said the Connnonwealth Prices Commissioner, Mr. M. E. McCarthy. In Adelaide last week the home of the Depnty Prices Commissioner was deliherately fired by someone who entered the honse in his ahsence and lit fires in three heds. The house was a total loss. The police are investigating anonymous telephone calls and letters. Bribes of up to £5000 had heen off'ered to prices officials to drop certain cases.
