WORRIES OF MR. JORDAN
LONDON, July 12'. Demands for passages to New Zealaud continue to give. the New Zealaud Higli Commissioner (Mr. Jordan) n great deal of worry. "By letters and personal intervicws, I am recciving threats and abuse," he said. "Some persons come liere and cry and others quarrcl. I even had a man say tliat, unless' his daughter received a passage in order to returu to her family, slie would commit suicide. I realise her case is one for some consideratiou, but she camc to England of lier own free will and now must take her place in the queue of those who have been waiting for years to return. If I got her a passage in face of that threat, I would probably have 200 threateaed suicides iiext day. "I must say that I am surprised at the number of New Zealanders who are gctting permits to come to Fugland antl thcn wish to return -before 'others who have been waiting for so long, many of wliom are pitiful cases. 1 sliould like to Tepeat that everything possible is being done to get all tlie available space aud that nine members of .-.my staff are doing nothing else but deal With" ma ti on tlris -shippilig questionp" added Mr. Jordan.
