Yirtual nationalisation of Prench sport is proposed in a plan presented to the Government by representatives of sports organisations, -says tlie Assoeiated Press Paris coirespondeiit.. Representatives, in a determined effort to sweop away the division between aniateurs and professionals, propose that the nation 's' champions should be designated "Htate athleles," supported bv the State. The representatives also demand that/ all natioual and inteinational meetings, including tlie Olympic Games, should be open to amateurs, professionals, trainers and coaches alike. Amateurs, they stated, should be entitled to grants efiuivalent. to ihe loss of income while training and participating in competitions. t The representatives mamtained that the distinetion between the amateurs and professionals' was first made in England when amateur sports were largelv the monopoly of the leisured classes. The president. of the French Sports Congress Committee (Ar. Vimward) said that the demands had been submitted to'the Ministry of Education, the French Olympic Committee, and the French Sports Federation.
