At ahout five minutes to seven Mr. and Mrs. Peachey were sitting in the living room of their house with the windows closed but blinds not drawn, when a small calibre rifle shot smashed through the window and fetttered the man's chest. Medical aid was summoned but Mr. Peachey died half ah bour later while being taken to Whangarei Hospital. The police can find no apparent motive for the erihie.
