AUSTRALIAN LIST OF JAP WAR CRIMINALS

On Mnrcli 25, 1946, 3255 Japaneso were listeil by the Australian Nilitary Forces as wanterl on suspicion of having perpetrated war crimes against Allied nationals. To date, 2139 have been apprehended. Au,stral.ian militarv courts have passed sentences on 118 Japanese. Twenty-one Were sentenced to death and 97 were sentenced to imprisonment for periods ranging from 30 years to life. The crimes charged against the Japanese included murder, massaere, torture, rape, mutilation of the dead, cannibalism, violation of the laws and usages of war, ill-treatment and failure to provide proper medieal supplies and food.
