Card Under Review

( SPECIAL — From

WELLINGTON, This Day. The Manawatu Racing Club's concluding day's card of its second winter meeting, at Awapuni to-morrow, has drawn par-ticula-rly good fields, and with a c mtinuance of the good weather at pre'sent being experienced, another large crowd should llock J to the course.

The track has been in remarkably good order for this time of the yeat, but rain set in yesterday and if it* continues the going will be m'ore to the liking of the winter j horses. With several fresh horses j engaged and the likely change in I track conditions first day form i might not prove so reliable. I Taranaki, at New Plymouth, ! Ohinemuri and Waimate will also j hold their fixtures to-morrow. i A brief review of the Awapuni j fields and prospects for the other i meetings are: ! 10.45— HACK AND HUNTERS' ; j STEEPLECHASE, of £350. Two miles and a half, — Golden Tide: • 10.4; High Morale, 10.0; Night Prince, 9.12; Phalaria, 9.6; Penwilt, 9.4; Ring Scarf, Oriental La^v. , Peacetime. Te Ranui, 9.U. The Hack and Hunters' Steeple- i chase has not drawn an attractive , I field and the best prospects appear i to be High Morale, Night Prinde, Golden Tide and Phalaria. , . Although he failed in his missioh i ' in the north Night Prince, a promising South Island steeplechaser, seems to hold a reasonabiy good winning chance here. High Morale, might prove his niost dangerous ' opponent.

11.30— TRIAL PLATE, of £350. Six furlongs. — First division: Balcastle, Beeban, Centennial Prido, Flying Dink, Incision, Le Rouge. Mystar, Provider, 8.11; Beau Raide. Beau Reve, Fleetwood, Ngakoti, Perfect Peace, King's Ransom. Royai Robin, Tetramarch, 8.0. Second division: Czarina, Diatomous Girl, Gold Watch, King's Sceptre, Omaio, Ulatis, 8.11; Abbey . Pay, Becalm, Bonnie Fair, Gay Tide, Langshaw, Lord Holland. ' Penicillin, Revivre, Skilled, 8.0. i Brackets: Bonnie Fair and Beau , Raide; Becalm and Fleetwood; Gay i Tide and King's Ransom; Lora Hoiland and Ngakoti; Penicillin and Perfect Peace; Revivre anc Royal Robin; Skilled and Tetramarch. Unless there are several sc :atch - : ings, the Trial Plate will be run in ; divisions. In the first division the ! improvers are Flying Dink, Provider, Beau Raide and Tetramarch, i while in the second division the j best prospects are held by Skilled, j Czarina, Revivre and Gold Watch. Skilled looks greatly improved since racing at Otaki. 12.15— JULY STEEPLECHASE, of £1000. About three miles. — Red , Giare, 12.4; Kilmanagh, 9.10; Tide- : over, Gay Rouen, 9.8; Authoress, Indian Sign, 9.5; Abbey Lu, 9.3; Opaltown, Flylite, 9.0. : Although up 11 lb. for his easy ; win in the Metropolitan Steeplechase last Saturday Red Glare, even with 12.4 should give another good exhibition of pace and clever jumping in the July Steeplechase . — that is if his first day's elfort has not left its effect. His most serious opposition is likely to come from the improving Indian Sign. If Kilmanagh jumps more confidently than she did iast week she is sure to be in the hunt. Of thc others Abbey-Lu and Authoress read the best. Authoress is due to . win a good steeplechase bef ore long.

| 1.5— MANAWATU HANDICAP, of j £700. One mile and a quarter.j Flying Tor„ 9.13; Platform, 9.4; Miss ; Delaware, 9.1; Fortune's Smile, 9.0; ; Leighon's Glory, 8.12; Indian Sport, Huiabaloo, 8.10; Singing Hills, 8.9, 1 Royal Duce, Bay Robe, 8.6; Lord Darnley, Blanket, 8.5; High Order, j 8.3 ; Ganges, 8.2 ; Flahuluk, 8.1; ; Bunna, Dark Morning, Foxella, i Irish F'ox, United Nations, 8.0. Leighon's Glory is showing consistent form in open company with a third and a second in her last two outings and in the Manawatu Handicap she must be respected. Flying Tor is a fresh horse as also ' is Fortune's Smile. Platform madc j up ground well last week when- an ' opening had been found, as also did Indian Sport. Miss De'aware ■ disappointed, but she is always ; ; iiable to make amends. Singing i j Hills ran well, but Lord Darnley's ; ; fourth was a good effort. He is I j unreliable, but will do it correct | one of these days. Will it be to- : ; morrow? Blanket is to make his • i debut in open class. Although he I will find the company difi erent : i and much tougher, he was a good j i hack and with his light . impost i ' must race well. Foxella was prom- j , inent for nine furlongs last weekj and was always with the leaders until he tired. United Nations, s backed solidly last week, ran a j great race to be close up to the j third and fourth horses. This I mare is very well at present. Royal | Duce also in the Farewell Hacki ! will make strong appeal if started j here, but might run out his last ; hack nomination. Ganges is ' I steadily regaining form and must j be respected. He was finishing on j solidly last week and the change. in I track conditions will be to his 1 advantage as also to that of ! j Flahuluk, a great mudlark from P. I Burgess' Trentham stables-. 1.50 — WINTER HURDLES HAN- : DICAP, of £700. One mile and seven furlongs, — The Monarcli, 10.12;. Endurance, Sheplierd's Mate, ( 10.1; Lunaria, Peach King, 9.13; ' Roloyna, 9.10;- Abdicate, 9.7; Has- \

ten, 9.5; Gold Money Song, 9.2; Cuisinier, 9.0. Peach King won the County Hurdles last week so comfortabiy that lie is likely to be one of the i'ancied divisions in the Winter Hurdles. Hasten is improving and a win is not far away. He is a Grand National Hurdles entry. Of the others, both Endurance and Shep* herd's Mate are not without good prospects.

i 2.35— ELECTRIC HACK HANDI- : CAP, of £350. Seven furlongs.— Ernbrae, 9.9; Prince Wanaka, 9.1; Peter Theio, 9.0"; Kauri Queen, Zahra, 8.13; Bournemouth, Moutoa Lord, 8.12; Mr. Valiant, 8.10; Tahli, 8.7; Highland View, Sergeant Jack, 1 8.5 ; Newel Post, 8.4; Persuade, 8.3; ! Grey Donne, 8.2; Silver Ball, Omaio, 8.1; Gynee Lou, Homespun, Merry Pal, Native Son, i Open Road, Sheilwyn, Tide Area, ; Ulatis, 8.0. Be-cause of his good performance jin the Suburban Hack last Satur- : day Peter Theio will be in strong ■ dernand for the Electric ■ Hack Handicap and should give his sup- : porters another good run. Erni brae was finishing on strongly for ; third after not securing an openj ing until almost in the straight. • Prince Wanaka is a fresh horse with distinct prospects. Highland ; View's good. second to Peter Theio i will bring hina plenuy of support Kauri Queen is always liable to 'spring a surprise. Gynee Lou ran : a good fourth while Sheilwyn'.' , third in the Maiden Stakes might be worth remembering. Silvei ; Ball worked well on the track al | Awapuni on Tuesday. Persuadc: i was close up sixth to Peter *Lheio ! last week and seems to be gradually improving. 3.25— MEMBERS' HANDICAP, oi" £500. Seven furlongs. — Ramicourt, 9.11; Battle Dance, 9.4; Sir Bradbury, Dileas, Wayside, 8.11; Donegal Bay, Broifield, Lady Chips, 8.10; Poutatau, 8.9; Piccolo, 8.7; Soneri, 8.6; Killeymoon, 8.5; Air Ace, 8.4; Cooraclare, General Menteith, 8.2; Behave, Blue Chips, Golden Acre, Leybourne, Palissy, 8.0. Finishing on with a solid run and being rather unlucky not to at least have dead-heated with Tribal Night in the Stewards' Handicap, Air Ace, one of the unlucky sprinters racing in the North Island will appreciate the extra furlong in the Members' Handicap, and looks the logical favourite. He will be bracketed with General Menteith, third last. week, which gives the stable a strong hand. Ramicourt will appreciate the extra furlong and an - improved showing may bc expected from him. Two fresh horses with prospects are Battle Dance and the promoted hack j Cooraclare. Others expected to i race prominently are Wayside. j Poutatau, Donegal Bay, Lady I Chips and Piccolo. 4.15— FAREWELL HACK HAN- I DICAP, of £400. One mile and a ! quartef, — Royal Duce, 10.5; Tomahawk, 9.1; Incline, 8.10; Mary Lee, Gynerio, 8.8; Mesalliance, 8.6; Blue Moon, 8.5; Buddy, 8.3; Blackwater, Tula, 8.2; Salut d'Amour, 8.1; Cock Robin, Foxada, Midshipman, Revetir, Rickie, Havildar, 8.0. It does not appear to be a strong field in the Farewell Hack Handicap, and even with his 10.5 Royal Duce should, if started, make a great bid to win his last hack race. Mesalliance. Blue Moon, Havildar, Blackwater, Gynerio and Mary Lee are the best of the others.
