Britain To Make Attempt METEOR JET AIRCRAFT

Received Friday, 1JL30 a.m. LONDON, July 11. It is announced that Britain will attempt to raise her own world's speed record of 606' miles an hour 1 using a Gloster -Meteor jet aircraft, for which a course has already been marked out in the j Sussex area, where several Meteors; are based. Practice flights have begun. The pilots have been formed into a high-speed flight like the Royal Air Force group which was established for the Schneider Cup preparations. The Goster Aircraft Company^s senior experimental pilot has already flown a Meteor, Mark IV, at a corrected airspeed of 630 miles an hour, according to a factory statement. I.t adds: "We are unable to run our own record attempt, as all ; our aircraft are under the control of the Ministry of Supply."
