IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN

■ ■ WELLINGTON, July 11. The following statement issued by Ihe Waterfront Industjy Commission, was released by the general nianager of the Commission, Mr. A. E. Bockett, toI night: | "The elaims of the union and emI ployers as to working condition of j waterside workers, were lieard by the j Commission on Monday and Tuesday of ' this week, when advoeates for both sides placed their vieWpoints before I the Commission. "It has now been decided that as ; from July 1, 1948, waterside workers ■shall reeeive: i "Firstly, work on Saturday morning | Which has hitherto been paid at time j and a cjuarter shall be paid for at time ' 1 and a half. ' ' Secondly, when watersiders are I ordered back to work overtime at 6 p.m. - I or iater from Monday to Friday or at | 2 p.m. or later 011 Saturdavs, they shall reeeive payment of 2s as meal money. j . " Thirdly, members of the Waterside Workers' Union are to be paid for SatJ urday holidays at the rate of eight j hours, ordinary time rate of pay, per | day on sueli terms and eonditions as 1 may be prescribed by the Commission.
