WELLINGTON, July 10. "With the c-ommencement of freight - carrying by air to the back country, I look forward to greatly increased destruction of vermin and also to wel-' come assistance being given to mountaineering clubs in building huts in high mountainous "country, ' ' said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry^ today. ' ' The co^era|ibi-;of: Uip; defehce authorities "wiih ' ihe Internal Affairs Department is another example of the Governnient utilising all the means in its power to safeguard the nation 's precious heritage of ngtive bush and land," he said. Mr. Parry added that for some time the practicability- of airborne supplies for deer destruction parties, and for building trampers' huts in high mountainous country, had received consideration. The long laborious work of transporting building and other supI plies by paekhorse, and frequently by ! inanpower, retarded deer destruction land restricted the number of huts that could be built. He confidently hoped the commencement satisfaetorily made in South ^Marlborough would be the forerunner of many aerial freight carrying tasks.
