WELLINGTON, July 9. Commeiiting on the Canberia cable with rcference to exports to New Zealand of nioior tyres, tlie Alinister of iSujiply and Aliinitions, Ilon. D. G. Hui livan, said that although it was a fact Ihat'rerent shipnients liad beeu some wliat larger than those received hitherto, the supjily position generally liad not improved. Earlier in the ycar, as a result of industrial dirliculties, production t'ell back in Australia and sup |ilies made available to New Zealand were reduced. During that timo quite a nuinber of permits wero issued bui tyres wero not available, with the ro sult tliat the increased quantities now ! being received would do 110 more than I partially satisfy the existing demand ! it liad been necessary to secure consid-.j erable quantities of tyres from thej Unitod Kingdom, Canada and India and j inquiries \\'erc being made in the i United "Htates.- Even if expectations from those couutries were realised aud if Australia were able to eontinue de iiveries at the preseut rate. New Zea land would have barely enough to satis fy ratiouing requirements and ccrlainl\ insul'ticient to meet the demands of pri- 1 vate motorists. j
