Alorling, H.A1., in th> : Police court, sentenced three einplovees j of the Auckland Aletropolitan Fire J Brigade to a term of imprisomnent on | a charge of theft. j The three were: Norman Wright,; aged 25, William Arthur Roach, aged j 30, and Thomas Albert Allen, aged 36. j They were jointly eharged with the ■ theft of a suitcase and contents of tlie i total value of £50, the property of | Dorothy Ividson. Air. K. C. Aekins appeared for ac- 1 cused who pleaded guilty. j Senior Detective Trethewev said ; that at 6 p.m. on Fridav last, com | plainant, a dietitian at Green Lane Hospital, placed four suiteases in her ear. The three accused were at the hospital where one inquired for a nurse. One suitcase was found to be missing and it was later found in a car driven by one of the men. "These three men appeared to have been drinking but at the time of their arrest they were all quite sober," added Senior Detective Trethewey. Mr. Aekins said that all three men had served overseas during tlie war. They had been off duty 011 Friday and unfortunately they had a little too much to drink. They went out to see a friend and thev foolishly took the suitcase. "They don't even remember which one of them took the suitcase,", said Mr. Aekins. "The suitcase was not touehed. It was quite intact and the whole thing was a stupid drunken prank. They had no intention of stealing the suitcase." The three men were eaeli sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Later, Air. Aekins, on behalf of his clients, gave notiee of their intention to appeal and to enable this to be done, the Alagistrate inereased the sentence to one month and a day. Securitv for appeal was fixed and the men were released on bail on their own recognisance,
