The increase in births and marriages is undoubtedly due to the return of large numbers of servicemen from ! overseas. • ■ Cause of Cement Shortage "There is plenty- of cement, but the problem is shipping to get it from Takaka in the South Island to Wellington in the North Island-" said Mr. W. Bodell, in a talk to the Levin Rotary Club yesterday. "The position is improving, but it is | slow." Mr. Bodell explained that ore-war there were nine boats which the cement company could call on for transport, but during the war the Marine Department bad allowed these vessels to func\icn without overhaul. To-day seven of those boats had been taken for overhaul, which occupied anything up to five months for each, and it was only as they returned would the cement situation impi*ove.
