WINTRY WEATHER FOR GOLF

OTAKI'S CLUB'S COMPETITIONS Otaki golfers faced'bleak winter weather m addition to the natural iazards of the course last weeknd. A strong southerly wind blew icross the course, bringing with it jia showers of sieet on Saturday, . ut on Sunday sunny but cold conaitions prevailed. The second card for the Tris Harjer memorial competition was jiayed on Saturday, only eight olayers completing the round. The .ollowing are the nett scores from ■ards to hand: D. Sutherland 73, J. j'Ath 74, K. Winterburn 74, H. Dernain 74, P. O'Rourke 74, F. Elliott 74 A. Wilson 74, J. Reid 75, A. Harpe'r 76, T. Gray 76, W. Rzoska 77, W. P'Ath 77, W. Morton 78, B. Ryder 79, F. Neate 79, J. Cooksley 80, I. Bertram 80, R. Knight 80. H. Derham is now leading by one stroke m the competition, with the best aggregate in the two rounds, from K. Winterburn and G. Sutherland. The "Top Dog" argument seems lo be continuous, with no one really able to claim the title, so the club las made the f ollowing decision : No two single-figure handicap olayers may play together, so a iingle figure man must take a double figure player for a partner, but this does not prevent any two .iigh handicap players combining. \11 players who are interested are l.sked to be on the nineteenth green at five p.m. following SaturTay's play, for the draw of the first .fflcial top dogs. At a recent committee meetmg it was decided to ask the ladies to place in the interests of the fairways exceptirig for L.G.U. rounds. A bogey competition will be played on Saturday afternoon ah3 a match with Buckley Golf Club 011 Sunday. All players who want a vame should ring or otherwise contact the captain, Mr. G. Sutherland. Buckley will be bringing 24 players. rhe Len Shepherd qualifying round is scheduled for Saturday week.
